This academic program is designed to study matter and its changes. The program emphasizes the context of science by considering the interrelationships among science, technology and society. Students, through the study of Chemistry 20-30, are given an opportunity to explore and understand the natural world and to become aware of the profound influence of chemistry on their lives. The four topics covered are: The Diversity of Matter and Chemical Bonding, Forms of Matter: Gasses, Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases and Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes. 

Prerequisite: Science 10: 50% (It is
recommended that students taking Chem 20 have completed Math 10 Combined). Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

REGISTRATION for this class begins Wednesday, July 17 and will close Thursday, November 7 at 4:00 pm. From Friday, November 8 to Friday, November 15 at 4:00 pm - ONLY students who are CURRENTLY ATTENDING an EDMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOL may register if there are seats available in the class. This 8 week class is delivered all ONLINE. Classes are held 3 days per week: Tuesdays & Thursdays – 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm AND Saturdays 8:30 am to 1:50 pm. Students are expected to be present on all days and to participate and be engaged in learning activities for the duration of class time.

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet.

TOTAL COST - Students under 20 years on Sep 1 of the current school year: A $60 non-refundable program fee. Students 20 years and over on Sep 1 of current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition.

All study/reading resources required for this course are in an ONLINE FORMAT and access will be supplied by your teacher. A scientific calculator may be required for this course and, if so, students are expected to provide their own.

NOTE: There will be no classes during Winter Break: December 23, 2024 to January 3, 2025. There WILL be class on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
