« back to classes page
Students in English 30-1 will analyze, respond to and create complex texts as well as identify and examine ways in which cultural and societal influences are reflected in a variety of Canadian and international texts. The 10-1, 20-1, 30-1 course sequence challenges students to develop a level of sophistication in their literary analysis and written expression, making 30-1 the necessary prerequisite for most university faculties and other post-secondary institutions. Prerequisites: English 20-1 or English 30-2: 50%. Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

Students taking this course are required to write the diploma exam. Diploma exams are offered in November, January, April, June or August.

If a student is rewriting a diploma exam, Alberta Education charges $26.25 to do so and the fee is payable directly to them; fees MUST be paid through myPass. Students considered to be rewriting an exam are those that have written the exam for this course in the last 2 years.
