In the Math 30-1 program, students will prepare for entry into post-secondary programs such as engineering, mathematics, sciences or other programs that require advanced math skills. Topics include trigonometry, relations and functions, permutations and combinations and binomial theorem. Prerequisite: 50% in either Math 20-1 OR Math 30-2. This course is a co-requisite for Math 31.
 Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.
Students taking this class may be required to write a diploma exam in November, January, April, June or August. Prior to exam administration dates, Alberta Education will inform all Alberta High Schools whether or not exams will be administered for any sitting throughout the school year. Students and teachers will be informed of Alberta Education’s decision for any given exam sitting Alberta Education charges $26.25 to rewrite a diploma exam and the fee is payable directly to them. Students considered to be rewriting an exam are those that have written the exam for this course in the last 2 years.

A graphing calculator is required for this course and students are expected to supply their own.

Please read: 

This Metro Academic Class is offered in a SEMESTERED format. This class is delivered all ONLINE. Classes are held 2 evenings per week: Mondays & Wednesdays – 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Students must be present for all learning activities in order to be successful in the course.

All classes will begin with a teacher led live lesson. Students are expected to be engaged in learning activities for the duration of class time (until 9:00 pm on Mondays & Wednesdays). Students will use SchoolZone to access their online class. Further information about SchoolZone is outlined in your Class Confirmation email.

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet. If you do not have your own device or access to one, please call Metro Customer Service at 780-428-1111 to discuss options available.

Students taking this class are REQUIRED TO WRITE a Diploma Exam. Diploma exams are offered in November, January, April, June OR August.

TOTAL COST - Students who are under 20 years of age on Sep 1 of the current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee. Students 20 years of age and over on Sep 1 of current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition.

NOTE: There will be no classes: February 21, March 2, March 26 to April 3, April 18, May 2, or May 19 to May 25.
