This academic program explores the interactions of living systems with one another and with their environment. In Biology 30, the topics covered are: Nervous & Endocrine Systems, Reproduction & Development, Cell Division, Genetics & Molecular Biology and Populations & Community Dynamics.Prerequisite: Biology 20: 50%. Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

If a student is rewriting a diploma exam, Alberta Education charges $26.25 to do so and the fee is payable directly to them. Students considered to be rewriting an exam are those that have written the exam for this course in the last 2 years.

Notice

Please read: 

ONLY students who are 20 years of age or older on September 1, 2021 may register for this class.

Online Asynchronous (Online Self-Paced Teacher-Supported): Students will be included in a learning community while having the flexibility to access their learning at their desired time within a week. Attendance in an asynchronous program is based on work completion and engagement in online learning activities. A teacher will be available on a weekly basis to connect with students about their course.

This class will start on Monday, October 4, 2021 and finish on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. During this time, students will have 24/7 access to the materials/resources for the course.

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet.

Students will be contacted on or before October 4, and will be provided with information about textbook pick-up, online access to all course materials, and the dates/times when a SUPPORT TEACHER will be available. Students will use SchoolZone to access their class. Further information about SchoolZone is outlined in your Class Confirmation email.

Once a schedule has been established, students can meet with their teacher on their scheduled dates and times each week if they need assistance.

The ONLINE support teacher for this course will be available on MONDAYS, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Available dates are:- 2021 = Oct 4, 18, 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec 6, 13, 20. 2022 = Jan 3. 10, 17, 24.

There will be no weekly check-ins with teachers from December 18, 2021 to January 2, 2022.

Students taking this class must write a Diploma Exam in November, January, April, June or August.

TOTAL COST – A $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition. A $100 refundable textbook deposit is required for your course. The deposit is refunded upon satisfactory return of textbook(s). Metro’s Customer Service will send you an email with instructions for pick-up of your textbook.
