Physics 30 - FALL 2021: Quarter 2 M/W/S - Hybrid (In-Person & Online)

This academic program is designed to study matter and energy and their interactions. The program emphasizes the context of science by considering the interrelationship among science, technology and society. Physics 20-30 helps students understand the physics principles behind the natural events they experience and the technology they use in their daily lives. The four topics covered are: Momentum and Impulse, Forces and Fields, Electromagnetic Radiation and Atomic Physics.

Prerequisite: Physics 20: 50%. (It is recommended that students taking Physics 30 also have Math 20-1.) Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of Sep 1 of the current school year.

Diploma exams are offered in November, January, April, June or August and students taking this course are required to write the diploma exam. Students are considered to be rewriting an exam if they have written the exam for this course in the last 2 years. For students who decide to rewrite an exam, please note that Alberta Education charges $26.25 to do so and the fee is payable directly to them. You pay the fee through myPass.

Hybrid (In-Person & Live Online Teacher Instruction): Students will meet with their teacher both online and in-person on specific dates and times each week. In this hybrid teacher-directed program, students have the opportunity to learn with their peers and to be part of both an online and an in-person learning community. Attendance in both the online and in-person classes of a hybrid program is mandatory. A teacher will be teaching during every scheduled class.

This Metro Academic Class is offered in an 8 week, Quarterly Fast Track format.

This class is delivered both ONLINE in a virtual online classroom, and IN-PERSON at Metro @ Avonmore. Both ONLINE & IN-PERSON sessions meet on days and times indicated on the class schedule as outlined in your Class Confirmation email. If you have any questions please contact Classes are held 3 days per week: Mondays, Wednesdays – 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm AND Saturdays 8:30 am to 1:50 pm. Students must be present for all learning activities in order to be successful in the course. Students will use SchoolZone to access the online portion of their class. Further information about SchoolZone is outlined in your Class Confirmation email.

Your class STARTS on Monday, November 15. Your Monday & Saturday classes are ALL online for the duration of the course. You will come in-person to ALL Wednesday classes at Metro – beginning November 17.

All online classes will begin with a teacher led live lesson. Students are expected to be engaged in learning activities for the duration of class time (until 9:30 pm on Mondays & Wednesdays and until 1:50 pm on Saturdays).

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet. If you do not have your own device or access to one, please call Metro Customer Service at 780-428-1111 to discuss options available.

Students taking this class must write a Diploma Exam in November, January, April, June or August.

TOTAL COST - Students under 20 years on Sep 1 of the current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee. Students 20 years and over on Sep 1 of current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition.

A $100 refundable textbook deposit is required for your course. The deposit is refunded upon satisfactory return of textbook(s). Metro’s Customer Service will send you an email with instructions for pick-up of your textbook.

NOTE: There will be no classes: Dec 20 to Jan 2, 2022.
