Living in a Globalizing World - Students will examine historical aspects of globalization as well as the effects of globalization on lands, cultures, human rights and quality of life. Students will explore the relationships among globalization, citizenship and identity. The infusion of multiple perspectives will allow students to examine the effects of globalization on peoples in Canada and other locations, including the impact on Aboriginal and Francophone communities. Students will develop skills to respond to issues emerging in an increasingly globalized world. Prerequisite: Social Studies 9: 50%. Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year. Textbooks and/or supplies will be distributed according to Argyll's Summer School policy.

Please read:  Due to the short timeline of SS, on-line courses are only recommended to students who have previous experience with on-line learning. Argyll Centre Summer classes are available for students who were under 20 years of age on Sep 1 of the current school year. TOTAL COST includes a refundable $100 textbook deposit and a $40 non-refundable program fee. TEXTBOOK REQUIRED. Choose the BROWSE BAR on the LEFT-HAND side of the screen. Then CHOOSE ‘Metro Bookstore & Supplies’, then CHOOSE Academic Books. ADD the textbook for your class to your shopping cart. CHECK-OUT and your receipt will be emailed to you. Textbooks & materials are available for pick-up at Argyll Centre (6859 – 100 Avenue) AS OF May 28, 2018. BE ADVISED THAT YOU MUST WAIT 2 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE PICKING UP BOOKS AND MATERIALS. Argyll’s hours of operation: May 1 to June 29, 2018 are: Monday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm; Tuesday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Wednesday & Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. As of July 3, 2018 hours of operation are: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Students residing outside of Edmonton must contact Argyll Centre Library at 1.888.532.7222 ext. 5225 if you wish to have books shipped directly to your home (for out of town residents ONLY - additional costs apply). LOGIN TO ONLINE CLASSES BEGINS JUNE 1, 2018, however, students will not receive feedback on assignments or have access to teachers until July 3, 2018. PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT DATES: June 22, 2018 is the last day to register for Argyll Summer School classes. June 29, 2018 is the last day to pick up materials. Students must turn in at least 50% of their assignments by July 16, 2018 and all remaining assignments must be completed and turned in by July 23, 2018. The school final exams for all courses are onsite at Argyll Centre, Edmonton, July 26 – 27, 2018. All resources must be returned no later than July 27, 2018 in order for textbook deposit to be refunded.
