Perspectives on Ideology - Students will explore the origins and complexities of ideologies and examine multiple perspectives regarding the principles of classical and modern liberalism. An analysis of various political and economic systems will allow students to assess the viability of the principles of liberalism. Developing understandings of the roles and responsibilities associated with citizenship will encourage students to respond to emergent global issues.

Prerequisites: Social Studies 20-1 OR Social Studies 20: 50%. Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

Students taking this course must write a Diploma Exam in January, April, June or August.

REGISTRATION for this class begins Wednesday, July 17 and will close Tuesday, September 3 at 4:00 pm. From Wednesday, September 4 to Monday, September 9 at 4:00 pm - ONLY students who are CURRENTLY ATTENDING an EDMONTON PUBLIC SCHOOL may register if there are seats available in the class. This Metro Academic Class is offered in an ONLINE Semestered format. Classes begin in September 2024 and end in January 2025. Classes are held 2 evenings a week – Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Classes begin with a teacher-led live lesson. Students are expected to be present on all days and to participate and be engaged in learning activities for the duration of class time.

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet.

To complete this course and receive an official grade on their transcript from Alberta Education, students must write a diploma exam.

TOTAL COST - Students under 20 years on Sep 1 of the current school year: A $60 non-refundable program fee. Students 20 years and over on Sep 1 of current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition.

All study/reading resources required for this course are in an ONLINE FORMAT and access will be supplied by your teacher. Students are expected to provide their own dictionary and/or thesaurus.

NOTE: There will be NO classes September 30; October 14; November 11 & 13; or during Winter Break - December 23, 2024 to January 5, 2025.
