Chemistry 20 - FALL 2021: Quarter 1 M/W/S - Hybrid (In-Person & Online)

This academic program is designed to study matter and its changes. The program emphasizes the context of science by considering the interrelationships among science, technology and society. Students, through the study of Chemistry 20-30, are given an opportunity to explore and understand the natural world and to become aware of the profound influence of chemistry on their lives. The four topics covered are: The Diversity of Matter and Chemical Bonding, Forms of Matter: Gases, Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases and Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes.

Prerequisite: Science 10: 50% (It is recommended that students taking Chem 20 have completed Math 10 Pure or Math 10 Combined). Students without the prerequisite must withdraw from class with no refund if they are under 20 years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

Please read: 

Hybrid (In-Person & Live Online Teacher Instruction): Students will meet with their teacher both online and in-person on specific dates and times each week. In this hybrid teacher-directed program, students have the opportunity to learn with their peers and to be part of both an online and an in-person learning community. Attendance in both the online and in-person classes of a hybrid program is mandatory. A teacher will be teaching during every scheduled class.

This Metro Academic Class is offered in an 8 week, Quarterly Fast Track format.

This class is delivered both ONLINE in a virtual online classroom, and IN-PERSON at Metro @ Avonmore. Both ONLINE & IN-PERSON sessions meet on days and times indicated on the class schedule as outlined in your Class Confirmation email. If you have any questions please contact Metro@epsb.ca. Classes are held 3 days per week: Mondays, Wednesdays – 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm AND Saturdays 8:30 am to 1:50 pm. Students must be present for all learning activities in order to be successful in the course. Students will use SchoolZone to access the online portion of their class. Further information about SchoolZone is outlined in your Class Confirmation email.

For this course – students MUST have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer available for their use (not a cell phone or tablet). The device used must have a webcam, a microphone, and access to the Internet. If you do not have your own device or access to one, please call Metro Customer Service at 780-428-1111 to discuss options available.

TOTAL COST - Students under 20 years on Sep 1 of the current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee. Students 20 years and over on Sep 1 of current school year: $60 non-refundable program fee and $589 tuition.

A $100 refundable textbook deposit is required for your course. The deposit is refunded upon satisfactory return of textbook(s). Metro’s Customer Service will send you an email with instructions for pick-up of your textbook.

NOTE: There will be no classes: October 9 or October 11.
